Blue fruited Syrah, but with better delineation than many a Central Coast Syrah. Fragrant blueberry, blackberry nose.

After last tasting a year-and-a-half ago, I was excited to open another bottle of the black ruby '07 Carlisle Syrah 'James Berry Vineyard'. Brambly raspberry and olive tapenade dominated the aromas, with delicious black fruit and molten licorice flavors. A great 'James Berry' with depth, structure and unmistakable power. It is both sophisticated and decadent, yet remarkably youthful. I hope I can keep my hands off the rest of my stash.

Certainly not the same level as the Saxum James Berry, but a nice expression of JBV that is drinking very well with an hour or two of air at 1/10th the current price of the 07 Saxum. Recommended.

The '07 Carlisle Syrah 'James Berry Vineyard' is one blockbuster wine. This viscous ruby color wine actually stained the inside of my Riedel. Lovely aromas of red raspberry, blueberry, pencil lead and spice arose from the glass. Concentrated flavors of cinnamon and clove coated the mouth before leading to a long sweet finish. A pure, full-bodied, near-perfect wine just approaching its prime.
