Copain
Kiser "En Haut" Anderson Valley Pinot Noir
Sommelier, International Wine Guild; Balistreri Vineyard; Sales, Joy Wine and Spirits
Why is everyone sad that Copain sold to KJ? I predict that the prices will be better and the quality will be more consistent. Don't make me remind you of the 2015 rose which was completely reductive to the point that I had to send cases back to the distributor. It didn't even blow off after 2 days! Anyways, this is a good bottle. When these are too young, they taste like warhead candy, but with just a few years on them, they taste like perfect black berries that just now became ripe. Also, Ray blind tasted me on this and I called it down to the producer.

Sep 18th, 2016Beautiful dark fruits and tea leaf. Cool climate Pinot at it's best. Better on the second day open!

Nov 1st, 2014Last of the Copain that we brought home from our visit to their tasting room. Five years after vintage and this is showing off! Room to grow, but it has definitely settled into itself with all the pieces neatly stitched into one lovely whole. Haunting depth for only 12.7%. #lastbottleblues

Jul 8th, 2016Underwhelmed and a bit upset. I remember this being so much better at the tasting in the vineyard. I think this was past. Not bad at all, just nothing special.

Oct 1st, 2019A little funk, a lot of cherry, something foresty and something a touch candied. Overall a nice feel, good acidity, a bit of grainy tannin left, and very much Anderson Valley - good and cool for California but still unmistakably sunkissed.
