Surprised just ok

From a restaurant list, decanted and poured. Great nose right out of the gate. Notes of dark fruit, creme de cassis, tobacco leaf, cigar box and earth. Really good in the mouth, with nicely matched fruit, acidity and resolved tannins. Silky texture. This is in a good spot.

This was a baby. Nose totally closed at the beginning and took an hour to blossom. In general this is a wine that's just shut down right now and still needs a few years before you try.

Best after 2-3 hours. Muted nose. Palate has green pepper, leather, licorice, faded fruit. Lengthy tannins and acid lead out the long finish.

This wine has aged beautifully.

Better when first decanted but faded very fast.

Double decant and pour(lots of chunky/fine sediment). A striking still dark ruby red color with bricking. On the nose: expressive notes of dried marchiano cherry, cassis, herbaceous, floral, minty eucalyptus, cinnamon, touch of funky earth. Taste: sultry, elegant, nice mouthfeel wine with dried cherry, tobacco, red clay, worn leather, lots of pepper, and a wet soil cocoa medium plus finish. YUM! Nice showing at 30 years!

Figured this for over the hill- roll the dice auction buy. Boy was I wrong! Cherry coke with just the right amount of stink.
