Darioush
Caravan Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon
This is Darioush’s entry level wine. Picked this up about two years ago when I first started enjoying wine. Very muted at pop and pour...wondered if it could possibly have a tiny bit of cork taint. 30mins later, it came to life a bit. Very dark in the glass. Blackberries, violets, and an earthy note. A bit thin on the front and mid palate...finish of raspberries, cassis, and a tiny bit of cocoa. Finish was nice and could probably go a few more years based on tannic structure, but I don’t see this getting exponentially better.
EDIT: Small improvement after a very long decant. Re-corked and will check in tomorrow. Day 2: Much better and more tied together. Though I don’t see this hitting a 9.5 in its lifetime, I could see this go 9.2-9.3 with 3-5 more years.
New score reflects most recent taste impression.

Excellent Cabernet, as expected from Farioush. Enjoying at Dominick's in Phoenix

Aug 26th, 2017Very good cab, full bodied. Cherry, dark fruits, pepper. Pepper more pronounced with food. Tannins under control. Worth the $36.
