The 2019 Viré-Clessé is a cuvée predesigned to be what you might call a consumer-friendly Mâconnais from less noble terroirs. I can see how the bouquet would instantly entrance the casual drinker with clean and pure red apple and lime cordial scents. The palate is rounded, not soft, but mouth-filling with lime and Clementine notes. Not long, but very drinkable. (Neal Martin, Vinous, November 2021)

Delectable’s rating called this “consumer friendly” in a not so flattering manner. I’d say this is very friendly to consume! Bright acidity offset by ample but not overwhelming green apples and tropical fruit. To me, this is a great Tuesday night quaffer with a nice QPR.

Another excellent unoaked Chardonnay from Thevenet’s “sister” property Donaine de Roally. Sourced from 4 hectares of organically farmed vineyards on clay-limestone soils in Viré-Clessé. Fermented and aged in epoxy tanks (no oak). Pure, expressive nose with notes of pear, tropical fruit (banana) and minerals. Some floral notes and hints of almonds (praline). Medium-bodied. Fresh, mineral, good acidity. So easy to drink
