Domaine du Pegau
Cuvée Réservé Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhone Blend
One of my favorite CDP. Consistent and reliable.

Oct 6th, 2018I’m really beginning to see this transition where the 2013s-16s of Rhône and Burgundy are already so drinkable and showing ripe fruit. Like they are making them to drink now, this winemaking style is showing a little more fruit extraction and from what I’ve seen here in Napa, you’re sacrificing the ability to age there for the early drinkability. Hopefully I’m wrong and these are all just warmer vintages. I just wanna see these wines reach their potential 10/20 years out

Sep 11th, 2018From the other night. Popped and poured. Consumed over three hours. Compared to the 2014 Marcoux we had before, this is a ride to funky town. Super concentrated dark cherries and garrigue on the nose. Tart cherries and spices on the palate. Nice concentration but quite primary at this stage and much stiffer tannins than the Marcoux. In typical Pegau fashion, this should age quite nicely. Drink now with patience; good through 2024 at least.

Nov 7th, 2017Popped and poured. The 2014 Pegaü “Cuvée Réservé” appears a deep ruby in the glass with a translucent core; medium+ viscosity. The nose is funky cherry, bruised strawberry, barn yard, stone fruit, brambles, garrigue, spiced meat, and damp forest floor. There is a touch of VA but it’s on the charming side. On the palate the wine is dry, with significant structure still. In fact, I feel as though the structure is showing more than I recall from earlier experiences. The fruit is generous but more red fruited than usual. Fresh and juicy with a long finish. Awesome. Still another 10 years in this, easy. On the lighter side for Pegaü, thanks the 2014 vintage, but still a stunner.
