Domaine du Rin du Bois
Touraine Gamay
Pretty intense for a Loire Gamay - a bit clunky, but excellent concentration and varietal character. Good Gamay for the price - drinks better than many Cru Beaujolais for significantly higher $$.

Jun 12th, 2015Quite pleasantly surprised by this. First Loire Gamay. Quite different from any Beaujolais I've tried. Possibly because it is showing its Touraine-area origins, underlying gravelly mineral and rose/violet character that I note quite often in Chinons and Bourgueils, and in fact it somewhat comes off as a lighter, more delicate version of the Cabernet Franc wines from either of those appellations (which is definitely not a negative for me). Fruit character is red with bright raspberry and sour cherry predominating. Moderate (+) acidity; soft, mild tannin. Wish it was slightly more acidic and concentrated on the palate but overall, great QPR.
