Fresh, savory, drinking very nicely. Raspberry coulis, macerated huckleberry, apricot, candied olive, smoke, black truffle, talcum, violet, pepper and sweet smokey meat. Tannin and acid playing nicely off one another, great harmony on that front. Texture from front to finish is elegant, long, has pedigree with Burgundian leanings. Perfect with chou farci, vadouvan, and black truffle.

2020/5/5 with grilled lamb leg heart from a Lulu Peyraud / Richard Olney recipe and grilled zucchini. This certainly had the inimitable Northern Rhone bottle bouquet going, though it’s also quite lithe and red fruited, as opposed to deep and dark, with prominent acidity. It reminds you of the diversity in Northern Rhone terroirs - and that (if I recall) the Chance estate St. Jospeh is from relatively young vines

Nicely aged St Joseph. Animalistic but still well balanced on its acids and fruit. Will probably not get better than this.

Apr 5th, 2019High toned floral, black olive, tar, mineral and soy notes frame the blackberry, cassis and plum fruit nose. This bottle has more bass notes in the palate with iron, road tar and soy accents to the black raspberry fruit. Elegant tannins frame the bright acidity found on the black fruited finish.

Jan 7th, 2018This is a gorgeous wine that appears to have reached a lovely phase of maturity. Nose sings with white pepper, iodine, road tar and violet notes. The fruit is red plum, cassis and black raspberry. The palate is so silky with juicy fruit driven tannins that really showcase the wines elegance. Cherry, plum, black current fruit mingles with mineral bass notes and a peppery floral lift. The finish is long with spades of finesse and elegance.

Elegant, rich, poised and open for business. Held up quite well to the La Mouline across the table for a fraction of the tariff.
