Domaine Leflaive
Les Pucelles Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Chardonnay
Tasted blind. Light gold color. Fruit forward nose, almost tropical. Notes of green apple and orchard fruits, wet river stone, apricot, white flowers. Notably younger in its evolution than the first two bottles today, with a slightly lower heaviness and depth. I go with a guess of 2000 Leflaive Pucelles. Nice to see a young 02 Leflaive sans premox, with a lot of upside in front of it. 94+

Oct 31st, 2022Medium gold color. Nose and color suggest this has a lot of age. Notes of apricot, gravel road, tan spice and lemon crème. Good weight and mouth feel. Nice structure. This is slightly advanced from where it should be at age 20 but drank nicely. Better than the other 02 Leflaive Pucelles I’ve had.

Apr 1st, 2022Rolling the dice with an 02 Leflaive…. Bingo, we have a winner. Light straw gold color. Fruit and floral nose. Wet stone, citrus, tan spice, pineapple and honeydew. Great acidity. We had a backup ready to go but the premox plague missed this one. Great juice.

Jun 14th, 2021Decided to try a bottle of 02 Leflaive Pucelles, something that has given us controversy in the past with several prior POX bottles before. This starts with an amber gold color and the nose has notes of caramel and a little Sherry. I’m worried. I set it aside in a decanter and go to the other bottles. I come back to it an hour later and the color has lightened, the caramel and Sherry notes are gone... This is a classic case of confusing POX with reduction, as this was likely in a reductive state at first. I’m sure many might have dumped it right away, I’m glad I didn’t... it came back to deliver a nice and suitable experience. The fruit and acidity powered up, with notes of apricot, white flowers, sweet kiwi fruit, white acacia flowers and river stone. It was missing a little in the mid palate, but overall it was a decent wine.

Jan 8th, 2020Medium gold color. Fruity nose. Notes of citrus, apricot, quince, some river stones and a little tan spice. In the mouth this is dominated by rich fruit and is very glycerol. The acidity is light yet the wine seems nicely structured. With air it develops more complexity. Clean. Really good and no signs of the pox plague in this bottle but there are certainly other Leflaive vintages I like more right now. I’m not sure this will get much better with more age.

Apr 25th, 2017Medium gold color. Heavy in the glass. Lemon curd, apricot, a little honey and white stone notes in the nose. Very rich in the mouth but coats everything with a nice amount of acidity that pairs well with the fruit. Long finish. Have had some not so great variation with this so nice to see one right where it should be around age 15... still young and fresh.
