Domaine Terlato & Chapoutier
Lieu Dit Malakoff Pyrenees Shiraz
First of the four reds for the blind tasting of Non-American Shiraz/Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon Tasting.
Medium garnet red with bricking on the edges. Stinky and dirty cellar attack on the nose with earthy characteristics, some floral notes, mesquite smoke, red berries and gamey notes. More olives and leather on day two. Medium tannins (5/10) and light to medium bodied. Solid acidity with a bit of the bite near the finish. Palate has some layers of raspberries, floral and spicy notes, a little smoked, olive tapenade, and red cherries. Dry and minerality in the medium finish. Drink till 2018.

Jul 18th, 2020Not my thing. Suppose I was expecting more bold before opening...The wine is unique for sure, the bouquet and the taste vary more than I expected, wine was somewhat acidic.
Got this on sale for $30, but I believe it’s typically quite a bit more expensive.

Has some nice aromas, but the wine is blocky and over extracted. Maybe it will come around, but for now, I can't say it floats my boat. The finish is pretty much a non starter as well. There is no finesse here and its over ripe just a bit. Cynthia's opinion was much higher.

Dec 26th, 2016I was expecting a huge fruit bomb with this wine but it was far from that. This is a very French inspired Shiraz, very Syrah like. The palate is full of plum and spice but the finish is very short and hollow. It's missing it's third act. $33.
