Donnachiara
Taurasi Aglianico

Dark, blackish purple. Inviting nose of tarry blackberry. Full-bodied palate gives that same blackberry with ripe blueberry, and a hint of birch ash on the moderately long finish. Fine, medium plus tannins and medium acidity. Aglianico is my new go-to Italian variety and Taurasi is the King. Old World presence with a slight New World feel. The slight step down from the Riserva makes for a great value in a premium appellation. Pizza — originally from the same region — is a natural pair, but take this anywhere you’d take a Bordeaux or a New World Syrah or Petite Sirah. Drink now through 2027.
