Donnachiara Taurasi 2020
Taurasi DOCG, Campania, Italy 🇮🇹
Overview
Made from 100% Aglianico grapes, this Taurasi is a classic expression of Campania’s most noble red. Known as the “Barolo of the South,” it undergoes a 15-day maceration on the skins, followed by malolactic fermentation and aging in French barriques (12 months), with another 24 months in bottle before release.
Aromas & Flavors
Intensely aromatic with blackberry, plum, cherry, cacao, and roasted coffee. On the palate: bone-dry, full-bodied, and warm, showing firm tannins, layered dark fruits, and an elegant structure with long persistence.
Mouthfeel
Structured and powerful, yet balanced. Rich tannins, dry finish, and remarkable depth that underline its long aging potential.
Winemaking Notes
Traditional hand-harvested Aglianico grapes, carefully vinified and matured. The barrique aging adds polish and subtle complexity while keeping the robust Taurasi soul intact.
Food Pairing
Perfect with hearty dishes: pasta with rich ragù, grilled steaks, game meats, and long-aged cheeses.
Verdict
A bold, structured, and age-worthy Taurasi with elegance and intensity. Built to age, but already showing its class in the glass. 🍷🔥
A la salute! 🍷 — 2 months ago
À very young vintage that is tasting nicely despite the tannic structure. Smoother and softer than the Taurasi aglianico wines - this wine is pairing nicely with our Italian meal. If you can find a bottle - you’ll find this a great value discovery! — 13 days ago

Popped and poured into red Solo cups. The 1997 “Radici” Riserva pours a garnet color with a near opaque core and a slightly orange rim; medium viscosity with moderate staining of the tears and some sediment. On the nose, the wine is vinous with notes of ripe, tart, and some desiccated fruit: Montmorency cherry, plum, licorice, smoked meat, balsamico, a mix of organic and inorganic earth, exotics spices and minerals. On the palate, the wine is dry with medium+ tanning and medium+ acid. Confirming the notes from the nose. The finish is long and earthy. This was quite the departure from the Napa wines surrounding it but made a statement. Drink now through 2037. — a month ago
I love Aglianico and this was amazing. Red and black fruit, terroir tobacco and notes of old books. Smooth tannins - enjoy. — 3 months ago
