Edmunds St. John
Rocks and Gravel Dry Creek Valley Grenache Blend
Second to last vintage of this wine that Steve Edmunds produced. It was special before he decided to hang things up and even more so now. Cali GSM with true old world sensibility

Nov 10th, 2024Beautifully balanced, and a lovely expression of Unti fruit and the earthy signature of that vineyard. As always, Mr. Edmunds manages to weld California fruit to an old world sensibility. Fab.

Dec 7th, 2016One of the best GSM's I've had. Lighter bodied than expected, killer fruit. Tart cherries and earth. Gulpable, yet there's much to ruminate on.

May 15th, 2017I wanted a bottle of wine for a summer meal of grilled hanger and salad. I love wines from Dry Creek and noticed this was from there. I am lucky enough to be there a couple times a year and have some favorites from a region where you'll see bumper sticker that say "NAPA makes auto parts, Sonoma makes wine". On seeing the grape mix, and being a sucker for Mourvèdre, Grenache, and Syrah, I bought this. Wow, I'm glad I did. I opened the bottle to add to my steak marinade two hours before I tasted it. Then, it was "Hmmm.... Interesting". At that point I noticed the grapes were sourced from Unti - a vineyard and wine maker who I have a personal love affair with. "Ah, more interesting", I said to myself. Four hours after opening, this wine is really really good. It reminds me of summer on the Mediterranean with a fantastic table wine. I'm not an oenophile, but I know what I like. It's priced right and great with food. Next time I'm in Sonoma, I'd like to meet the winemaker.

Sep 9th, 2016Blast of juicy raspberries and excellent stony and gravely minerality, just like the name promises. Big, brash, and yet somehow lovely. This, to me, is perfect.
