In a wonderful place. Nose of spice and resin, pine needles, cherries, herbs, dried hay, citrus rind and more. This has gotten so much better since its awkward youth. Palate is fresh and linear with terrific acids and lean, fresh cherry fruit. Lovely length and purity. Air will improve but what an effort in a hard vintage.

Lovely ephemeral nose. Silken gossamer. Wilted roses. Expansive and just beautiful. Cherry. Strawberry. 9.4 almost 9.5 nose. Out of this world. Palate is sweet, silky and so elegant. Lovely sappy cherry fruit on the mid and then they crash like a soft wave on the finish. This is so so pretty. Really wowing me on pop and pour. Fresh so fresh. Everything is in its place.

Very light in color. Sour licorice, raspberry, tart currant, and red apple skin. This really needs a second to play nice. Opens up with some forest floor. Keeps getting better.

Another great vintage for the new hedonists. That jammy stuff’s for the other guy.

Always a multi-day opera with this one:

Day 1: Luden’s cough drops, dill, coriander and pickling spices. Whiff of boiled weeds. And this is a fruit day. And the wine is clean as a whistle, tender and tempting. If you’re an Enderle fan, none of this sounds even remotely odd.
Day 2: Rancid strip mall Peking Duck, MSG straight out of the box, and cabbage boiled in a cheap aluminum pot. Wretched.
Day 3: The most tender, pure and clear cherry aromas and flavors, reminiscent of Tollot-Beaut or Cornu Chorey-les-Beaune of the 1980s. A long, palpable finish of immense, chalky minerals and vibrant acids. Extraordinary.

A little bit of a port wine nose. Brown tinge. Seems to me as one of the more difficult vintages E&M had to care for. Round, mature, herbaceous, lime, quite earthy and acidic. I would start drinking this 2017.

Slight brown tinge. Very light in color. See picture. Between the 16’ and the 18‘ this is the lesser vintage. Plenty of acidity and tannins left. Seems tight and austere upon opening. Lime, cranberry and some red currant. Would drink this with asian food. Give it 1 hour of air.

In 2019 Lyle said closed us fuck. And the wine is really tough to taste upon opening. Cranberry, tart, very acidic needs more time to open up. Doesn’t really convince me. 17 must have been a tough vintage for them. Will try the big boys Muschelkalk and Buntsandstein next if i can find them in my messy cellar. And then try this again in 2 hours.

At first the almost port like color made me think it might be an off bottle. But ultimately I think this bottle is just not giving up too much right now. Forbiddingly tight. The fruit that does poke through is wonderful, though, and the balance is there.
