This is a brilliant effort from Ferren. Opaque in the glass, with notes of decadent sugary notes on the nose. The palate displays subtle oak treatment, with pears, tropical fruits, and a hint of celery. Lovely acidity gives way to moderate sweetness, and a plush, smooth mouthfeel. This is peaking right now.

Really good. Hasn’t evolved much since we last tasted it. On the nose, notes of crisp green apples and green bell peppers. Palate is balanced and soft. Finishes with butterscotch and precise oak treatment. The is a poster child for understated chard.

The one adjective I would use to define this is idiosyncratic. From it’s opaque appearance, to its sherbet-like nose and bright acidity on the palate, it’s jarring, but in a good way. I was put onto this by the beach-bum @Paul Treadway Huntington Beacher Bum. Good call, mate. As it warms up, it gathers pace and weight. An interesting departure from the norm.

Day 2 Update
This has relaxed a lot, and has significantly improved as a result. Taking our rating up a notch.

Fantastic Chard! This 13’ is drinking perfect as a PnP. 😋 It needed some time in the bottle. At The Hard Rock Hotel- Orlando Florida

13' Ferren Silver Eagle Chardonnay. Matt Courtney winemaker. Was the assistant winemaker for Helen Turley at Marcassin for nearly 10 years.

I recommend highly decanting this wine for some time. The acidity is just a little overwhelming without the decanting. It comes together quite nicely after that.

If you enjoy your Chardonnays with not too much oak 6/10 & the acidity throughout the glass is 4/10. Layers of rich tropical fruits, this is for you! I wouldn't call it long, but a lingering finish. You'll need/want a refill. Outstanding! Age worthy chard. We have a few in the cellar, and will patiently wait 2+ years to try again. Inaugural vintage... get on the waiting list!

Aerated for 2hrs- copious fruit (white peach, apricot, apple) on both nose and palate, prominent oak upon opening (as expected). Acid suggest 8-10 yrs cellaring not a problem. Will revisit each year- well done!

Wow! This is delicious... So Burgundian in style. Tangerine oil, gunpowder, and nut skin on the nose. An almost meursault like character. Quincy on the palate and seems to last forever. Slightly reductive but man it's young... Super super Chardonnay
