A bloody good Chianti Classico this. And yes, that was an attempted 'sang'iovese pun. Sorry to follow a ropy gag with price info, but this is brilliant value for such a good example, at £7. A deep, near-opaque ruby, it has a lovely depth of colour, classic Sangiovese nose of red cherry and developmental oaky, savoury, bay leaf notes, and a palate high in flavour, intensity, with the acidity lifting a distinct red fruit profile above it's other spicy, leathery aspects. Length of finish is good, but a corky, slightly imbalanced alcoholic warmth remains - hence modest 8.3 rating. I recommend this regardless!
