Gaja
Ca' Marcanda Magari Toscana Sangiovese Blend
After a week in napa its a palate shock to go italian with some of the same varietals. Good in its own right though with a luxardo cherry note and rustic finish.

This is a Franc heavy Bordeaux blend followed up by Cab and PV. Notes of dark cherry, prunes, some sour raspberry.. there's a darker smell and herb notes of some lavender and dark chocolate. I get a sense of amaro to this probably from the Franc and PV (addictive). You'd find these tannins in most merlots. Acid is a little wild/active like Sangio. Little oak. Nose is dark and deep. Palate is juicy and Italian.

Jun 16th, 2017This is a nice wine, a Gaja made blend. Deep and dark in the glass in the way that few Italians wine are, quite accessible young on both the nose and the palate - with lots of medium red fruit on the nose. Tannins are quite smooth already, and acid certainly there. Nice. Would want to try after a few years or at least a long decant.

Mar 30th, 2017Saying goodbye to Italy with Sangiovese from an iconic producer. This is drinkable now, but could use some time in the bottle. As it is -- long finish with acid and tannins. Sage and dirt. Keep your fucking Chiantis at home, this is wine. #gaja
