Kye is like the value option to GD Vajra Barolo. Freisa and Nebbiolo are cousins, but I’d argue distant cousins. This is chunkier, with equal power but darker - less the bright red fruit.

It’s complex with dark cherries and dried strawberries.

Freisa is like Nebbiolo without the visual lightness and clarity. Lots of red fruit and big tannins. Aromas of blackberries, cherries, mint, sage, and tobacco. Has a softness that folds nicely into puckery tannins. Mineral earthy metallic elegant finish. Terrific Piedmontese alternative to Nebbiolo.

Freisa from GD Vajra showing incredibly well for what would normally be considered a farmers breakfast wine. Bravo.

Had the opportunity to taste this, the 2013, and the 2012 a day apart. 2012 has a more evocative and Nebbiolo-like nose but an intensely tannic bite and overall less dense fruit. The 2013 by comparison is positively elegant and refined by comparison, though the fruit is more on the cherry syrup side. I consider a wine to be a "95" if it is absolutely outstanding and in the top 7-10% of wines I've ever tried, and I have been lucky to have tried a number of good wines. I like this wine. No way it's anywhere close to a 95 for me.

Strawberry, rhubarb, rosemary, dried oregano, mint, bay leaf, dried rose, black cardamom, orange peel. Rounded acidity, mild wide velvet tannins, medium-full body, silky texture, herbal-smoky-slightly bitter finish. Complex aromatics lend themselves perfectly to grilled red meats/sausages. Opened up after 45 minutes, texture blossomed on day 2.

Very unique. Dark assertive fruit with solid acid and soft tannins. Drank well over 2 days.
