*pic of the white wines* One of the wines I supplied for an annual lunch hosting (co-host this time), along with the 2018 Morlet LpD. 2009 was the last year Hugel used “Jubilee” before moving to “Grossi Laüe”. This is Hugel’s “Grand Cru” selection from their Schoenenbourg vineyard.

Undeniably Alsatian Riesling in the glass from first whiff…floral, minerals, and only slightly TDN (petrol) aromatic driven, but noticeable power. Vintage (and age) has helped this reach a fantastic drinking window where acidity and flavor profile are in balance and not fighting each other. Ripe herb-crusted yellow fruits alongside limestone/mineral in a powerful profile. There is warmth to this vintage and it makes an appearance in how fleshy the wine is (which is great). At almost 16yrs, there is no rush, but this drinking window is exceptional.

Third time I’ve had this wine and I still adore everything about it. Loves air. Pale lemon/green with gummy worm aromatics. Powerful and dry at 13.5% abv. The age is just starting to show as the fruit character mellows. Rich, lees, neutral oak. I want crab cakes or Thai chile chicken wings.

Simply put, I love this wine. Loads of stone fruit and exotic spice on the palate. Perfectly balanced with a LOOOONG finish. Could easily age for another decade. Second time tasting and I can’t wait for the third.

Structured and muscular Riesling. Full bodied with a weighty richness to it. Almost green looking in the glass. Started with key lime pie, minerals, and Haribo gummy bears before moving into riper notes of baked apricot and tangerine. Looooong finish. Really opened up and waltzed across the stage after an hour open. Will easily age another decade. Tannin?

Wow. Powerful Riesling with smoky minerals (almost like Chablis), lime, petrol, green apple jolly rancher, and mouth watering acidity to spare at a decade old. 45 second finish. Worth every penny. $75

Light and fragrant on the nose, honeysuckle on the front, orange blossoms, lime with a mineral finish.
