Paired with steak au poivre. Some sediment even after decanting. Wine is pepper and tobacco on the nose (no that wasn't the steak). Picked up some blackberry jam and chocolate and coffee on the nose after it opened up. Taste was jammy and peppery with a strong tannin bite. Thought it got more deep and complex as it sat. Paired really well, would drink again, wife didn't mind it despite not being a Merlot fan.
