Joseph Phelps Vineyards
Backus Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon
2nd time tasting the ‘18. Massive wine. Opulent. Tremendous depth of fruits. Enjoy now for its sheer power. I would not open mine for at least another 10 years.

May 10th, 2023I bought this on my Napa trip at the winery. I was told to save this for a special occasion. It’s the beginning of thanksgiving week so I decided it’s a special occasion. Too much hype for me and I am disappointed. Maybe this is well rated by others but for me not worth it. I did enjoy it but I don’t plan on buying again. Seemed to be light and no distinguishing taste or nose notes.

Nov 20th, 2022Over the years I have had my fair share of Joseph Phelps, but never had the chance to taste the Backus. Until now.
Massive, immensely powerful and complex. Waves after waves of cassis, blueberry, baking spice, cocoa, and cedar. Very primary. It will take at least a decade to develop properly, but sky is the limit.
I almost felt guilty to drink the bottle at such young age. But what a treat!
