Kanonkop Estate
Simonsberg Stellenbosch Pinotage
Denser color than Pinot Noir. Nose is more muted. Flavor is also more bold and intense than your standard Strawberry profile. More plum, gritty tannins, blackfruit jam. A fun experience.

May 11th, 2019Jammy black currants and cassis, toast, cedar, smoke and leather on the palate. Moderate acidity and smooth tannins. One of few pinotages I actually enjoyed..

Nice representation from South Africa. Wife really liked it. Bottle lasted about an hour.

Mar 28th, 2019Intense ruby red color with strong aromas of black fruits, ply wood, and floral on the nose. Full-bodied coupled with full flavors of blackberry, chocolate-caramel, and soft black pepper on the palate. Juicy, low acidity, firm & smooth tannins, and soft-medium aftertaste.

Mar 28th, 2019Aromatic in a brash (rude) way. Young with lots of everything. Black cherry, leather, (nebbiolo-like) tar, and some red fruit somewhre in there. The wine has a heavy licorice note together with charred notes, dried spices and a very savoury profile (I start thinking about barolo chinato !!).
The body is lighter than expected, although there’s lots of flavour (much like on the nose), but lacking fruit and having an excess of alcohol. Tannins are very drying but short. This is really a wine for the average swede (since most of the tasting group of ten liked it strongly): pumped-up, a bit too much and an attention seeker. It’s a great example of the variety (and more enjoyable than most I’ve tried), but a bit too much burnt aromas and burn.
