Kistler
Cuvée Cathleen Kistler Vineyard Chardonnay
After a couple months of hiatus, the Friday City Club group was able to get back together (albeit a smaller, more spread out group) for an epic hosting by @joe leatherwood . 1 sparkler, 2 whites, 5 reds and 1 dessert wine, all served blind.
I had this same vintage a little over a year ago and my note is very similar. I got a distinct hay note aromatically that I really haven’t come across much. It wasn’t herbal, but slightly more green and unique. Honeysuckle and honeyed stone fruits on the nose as well. Big and commanding on the palate and slightly more savory...lemon oil, sea salt and almond croissant. I called this 8-10yr old Cali chard.

Honeysuckle, honeyed mango, hay, green Apple and limestone on the nose but slightly more savory on the palate...with popcorn kernel and caramel. The finish then turned back slightly more delicate with white flower and honeycomb.

Mar 24th, 2019Okay I'm a bit of a homer on all these Kistler wines. I admit it. This 2012 cuvée Kathleen was my favorite when I tasted it out of barrel year before it was bottled. I have not tasted enough cuvée Cathleen until tonight. There are oily aromas. There are also aromas of stone fruit and some citrus. Very complex integration of oak is evident . This is a wine of profound concentration. This is a real keeper

Aug 28th, 2014Rich, oily, unctuous. Honeydew, oak, and vanilla richness. This is perhaps one of last big Kistler Chards, and I welcome the move to balance. But still: delicious. This wine is ready to drink.
