east facing, 30-40 yr old vines, indigenous yeast, unfiltered unfined. nose- savory, umami, dried cherries, forestry. tannins still grippy. drinking on time- needs some food to release those tannins. ‘this wine is why burgundy ruins you’.

At first opened and tasted without decant, but determined it was needed. After 1 hour decant the wine became expressive and elegant showing black raspberries, red currants, topsoil, lots of minerals, well integrated acidity and a 2011 grip. No detection of green and vegetal characteristics as can often be found with the vintage. Finishes with good length and balance. Volnay did very well in 2011.

One hour open time; chalky cherry cola at first, then more savory dried goods came thru. It didn't hold up much longer after it peaked, thus only 9 rating - better Bourgognes yet to come.

Light ruby. Nose of spice, red berries backed by a distinct herbaceous character. Had some fizz on the palate, so I had to give the bottle a good shake to get rid of it. Medium- body, with a good acidity and long finish. Probably too young to properly evaluate.

Opens up with some cherry and cassis on the nose. Rich red fruit with bits of chocolate will be prominent on your palate. Seems to be pretty tannic but not crushing. Would love to revisit this one in several years.
