At first a persistent smoky, burnt bacon note was overwhelming and preventing me to smell any other scent... After 2 hours, fruit notes are popping out but it's still very marked by oak and that smoked bacon grease note is still very strong along with cherry and raspberries. The palate is a bit more traditional pinot with cherry and a tiny sweet touch, yet that smoked bacon grease touch is still there and it influences the mouthfeel, which is much more oily than what I usually associate with PN. Tannins are discreet, yet present and laying a subtle drying effect, before a rather long finish that I would describe as spoiled by these smoky greasy notes. To me this is not what Pinot should be, and the aftertaste is more highland whisky than wine. I really wanted to like this...
