Le Vieux Donjon
Châteauneuf-du-Pape Red Rhône Blend

2001: Sweet spot. In that middle twilight area, where there is still a depth of sweet fruit, yet moving into a mature status. Roasted beets, soy, and meaty - a blindfold test would suggest a lush Cote Rotie. Really showing beautifully now, yet will continue to match glycerin to fading fruit as aging continues. Yummy.

Earthy, old saddle leather and dried red fruit aromas and flavors, color and palate shows it’s mature and time to drink, lovely older CdP!!

Apr 16th, 2020Usually avoid CdP but this '01 wasn't heavy or stewed--just nice vibrant red Grenache-dominated fruit, earth and barnyard with balanced alcohol/acid

Opened this tonight and was drinkable straight away. Nice light to medium color, with a touch of tannin to be found. Herbs, and fruit still very much in tact. Delightful wine drinking at just the right time. Our last bottle.......If you have one in your cellar you might have a year or two left to enjoy!
