Wight Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon

After our first two tastings were a bust, I decided to avoid any more “jump balls” and went for this 15 Lewelling.
What a treat... everything we love in a Napa cab. Coffee and maple syrup present on the palate, and these notes effortlessly glide to the mid palate. Regal tannins interplay with deftly balanced acidity. The blueberries and other black fruits are piercing. Just a stunning example all around.

Good god...
The nose displays depth, texture and nuance.
Palate draws you in like a black hole. Oodles of ripe black cherries combine with espresso, cinnamon notes and cedar. There are many layers on the mid palate, complimented with powerful tannins, soil and good acidity. A brilliant effort, with lots of runway ahead of it.

So impressed with this new find of ours. Whether it’s the regular cab, or the Wight designation, they are both excellent value. This wine presents the cabernet varietal, perfectly, without the viscosity and exuberance that some producers seek.
The nose displays freshly cut herbs and barrel toast. The palate presents cinnamon, overripe cherries, coffee, and a wisp of blueberries. This is Day 3 since opening, so it has continued to evolve. Finishes with a long, mellow sweetness. Tannins are ripe and perfectly balanced.

First time trying this, and what a great get it was. The nose displays smokey notes, but other than that, it gives up very little. However, the palate is another story. Heavy notes of berry compote, coffee and maple syrup are supported by bold, drying tannins. Subtle power, expressed with poise and grace. Finishes sweet. Very well done.
