Les Encégnières Chassagne-Montrachet Chardonnay
Another 4th Friday for the books! What a variety this month!
Wow. Just another example of why I love white burgundy. Crisp and sharp acidity. White flower, lemon cream, stone fruit. No idea of the price point on this, but I’d buy in a heartbeat.

the best thing about eating alone is that this gem is all mine. a magical wine. nearly perfect. only thing that would make it better is to be drinking it with someone.

Aug 13th, 2016Perfectly evolved, expressive with nice richness & yet restraint and minerality.
Rich on the nose with ripe pear, green pineapple, (over)ripe lemons, a whiff of papaya. Plus a good dose of crème brûlée, some matchstick reduction and a fresh, chalky, minty element adding freshness. So enticing.
Starts rich & broad on the palate with ripe, sweet exotic fruit and some brioche, vanilla pastry notes. The taut lemony acidity cuts through and tightens there frame. And then the chalky, stony mineral kicks in adding depth & complexity. Rich yet with depth, character & elegant complexity.
I was fearing premox but this has aged beautifully and is peaking right now. What a joy!

Jun 25th, 2021From the Encégnières Climat, on the border to Puligny and directly below Batard-Montrachet.
Taut, young & fresh despite the 6y. Opens with a bit of matchstick reduction and some bready-nutty notes, followed by ripe lemons. On the palate this shows great concentration with a core of spicy minerality and fresh, juicy acidity around which layers of ripe lemons are wound tightly. Ends with a note of lemon tart with salty caramel.
A grand wine with amazing purity and length.

This wine has been on my mind lately. Took a bit to open up, but did not disappoint.
