Year in and year out, this producer makes large quantities of high quality, reasonably-priced, "true to its terroir" wine -- a hard thing to do. The 2009 has an elegant nose of baking spices, roasted herbs, Tuscan gravel, and ripe cherry. Mouthfilling and soft, its intense, fruity attack quickly turns minerally and hangs on for quite a while. Nice balance and purity. (Not sure about the price, as it was a gift, but I think if you shop around it can be had for under $20.)

Chianti Rufina DOCG 2009, 13.5%. Beautiful color with purple nuances. The nose was a bit to alcoholic at first, but then the floral scents emerge and it becomes rich and intense. Powerful but smooth in the mouth.

Wonderful nose. Red berry fruit, soft acidity and medium body. Really a very pleasant wine.
