Big yet clean fruit. Dusty grip. Mint. Tomato leaf. Uplifting acid. Great steak wine.

Refosco grape originally from Friuli Italy. Now in Napa. Big fruit, tannins galore, long dry finish. Needs food!

A night of @Steve Matthiasson in Boulder. Our last bottle of refosco this year. Savory and loving some steak tacos.

Put a tiny chill on this and served it up with grilled New York.

2012-this was freaking delicious! Perfect summer, steak off the grill wine!

I was blown away by the delicacy and lower alcohol levels Steve Matthaisson achieves not only in his white wines, but also his reds. The 2012 Napa Valley Refosco weighs in at 13.2% ABV, with an attractive, glittery garnet-hued robe. There's no shortage of fruit expression however, the nose emits an array of bramble berries, marionberries, and Italian plums. There is considerable structure on the attack, with firm, grippy tannins, stony minerality and a dash of dried sage on the finish. A lovely effort.

Refosco, you know? More bulky than previous vintages, richer color too...

Aromatics off the hook, charcuterie and cured meats, some iodine, slithers across palate, silky yet refreshing, dark iron and meats, lightness yet directness, wowness
