Matthiasson Vineyard Schioppettino

This is one of those out of left field that has the color, clarity and weight of a Pinot that belies a level of complexity that this puppy delivers in spades. Warm, fruit forward with a spicy backend that absolutely rocks. Well done, Matthiasson!

Medium red/purple color with some brightness. Earthy/grassy noise with ample stewed fruit. Tastes how it smells. Nice texture and medium depth. Could swirl this in my mouth all night long. Medium finish. Very unique and tasty wine!

Pleasantly surprised! Dark red color. Fruit forward wine with hints of spice and ample candy sweetness. Refined with nice depth. I think the age served it well. Glad to have one bottle remaining!

Never had a Schioppettino. The name reminds me of a kid in my 6th grade class. PS193. Whitestone Queens. Anyway. Pepper, Citrus, light acid. Drinks well now.

I’m now really curious about more Schioppettino. This was great. Dark fruit, smooth, great nose and impressive weight for 12.1 abv. Really loved it.

Anise, white pepper, super light for a wine with so many savory qualities. So interesting.

Black pepper bomb. Nice acidity and fruit, fun, interesting, but make sure you have the right food with it.

This might be my favorite of Mathiasson's wines. Always interesting, incredibly earthy, medium bodied and richly textured. Lots of earth / pepper / acid. Delicious.

Warm and spicy, blackberry, tannins, and acid. Delicious.
