Mmmm jammy, delicious, spice component with cinnamon and red pepper kick. Well-balanced acidity, harmonious sips, really playin up the medium body.

Blend of two varietals from Italy (Friuli and Alto Adige) rarely grown in US. 37 cases made. Ruby red, very good clarity, medium pigment extraction. Red fruit aromas, flavors of pomegranate, tart cherry, black currant and a touch of plum, not quite cola. Lots of tannins, seed and skin, so decant at least one hour, preferably longer. Good body, lighter style in terms of alcohol, nice balance of fruit, tannins and acid. Props to the winemaking team at Illahe for staying experimental and testing new varieties’ adaptability to growing conditions in Oregon. — 3 years ago

The 2019 Schioppettino is remarkably pretty and floral, with violets and roses complementing its wild red berries and hints of smoke. This is soft-textured and lifted in feel, yet also packed full of fleshy raspberry fruit, as exotic spices build within. It leaves a tinge of sour citrus while finishing lightly structured and with a staining like liquid lavender. Lovers of Schioppettino will fall head over heels for the 2019. A stately, well-structured red from Friuli. This one had the maturity and mellow character of a wine almost a decade old. The tannins, though no doubt softened over the years, provided enough structure to allow this schioppettino to continue ageing, even if only for a couple more years. Blueberries and vanilla were present on the nose, whereas the palate presented flavors of prunes, raisins, plums, and a hint of tobacco. Very happy to have procured this bottle; it was a great pairing for our Easter leg of lamb! 100% Schioppettino. 4/17/22. — 5 years ago

Wines get released after many years depending when he thinks they are ready
The schioppettino gave me the best impression
Fruit, spices(coriander seeds and white pepper) and a bit of incense
You keep swirling you will get more and more
