Cherry, with dark fruit but still bright and light, with a sweet but slightly nutty finish. — a year ago
A relatively obscure grape in America, Marco Sara being one of the better offerings that I have tasted since my first experience tasting this grape at the Ristorante al Gobbo di Rialto in Venice years ago.
VM: 90. Masses of violet and lavender florals give way to crushed wild berries and peppery herbs as the 2022 Schioppettino blossoms in the glass. This is sleek and racy with cooling acidity, crisp red berry fruits and savory spices. Zesty acidity maintains fabulous energy throughout. It finishes staining and long yet only lightly tannic, leaving the mouth watering for more. — 5 months ago
The 2019 Schioppettino is remarkably pretty and floral, with violets and roses complementing its wild red berries and hints of smoke. This is soft-textured and lifted in feel, yet also packed full of fleshy raspberry fruit, as exotic spices build within. It leaves a tinge of sour citrus while finishing lightly structured and with a staining like liquid lavender. Lovers of Schioppettino will fall head over heels for the 2019. New producer to me
Apparently he has been a benchmark for pignolo and schioppettino for a long time
Wine style is big
Wines get released after many years depending when he thinks they are ready
The schioppettino gave me the best impression
Fruit, spices(coriander seeds and white pepper) and a bit of incense
You keep swirling you will get more and more
Very long
Hard to find and a bit pricey — 3 years ago

Light to medium bodied wine, pale burgundy with amber hues to the edges. Barnyard funky nose, hay, muddy earth, with hints of black cherry, fermented black plum, and some velvety vanilla notes, maybe even some beach dried seaweed. Palate is VERY fruit forward, silky, with ripe fresh strawberry all over, some wild funkiness, slight brandy hints, with some angelfood cake crust like flavors, olive oil, black olives and tar, really complex, loooong and different. — 5 days ago
