Pink grapefruit skin. And loads of flinty, stony minerals on the nose. The palate is minerally, but with nice high-toned sweet fruit. Light body, and a long finish. So unique!

Sometimes you just need a #volcanicwine. This one comes from the craggy, windswept Canary Islands of the northwest coast of Africa. Put on some Cesaria Évora and get ready for a whiff of smoky funk followed by deeply mineral flavors of plum and red berries, bitter herbs, and pulverized stone. Faint powdery tannins hang in a haze as the wine lingers with bitter licorice root and camphor wood notes in the finish. Made from old vines of Listan Negro, it’s a classical expression of the Canaries, but from a surprising source. The producers behind this brand are the Spanish cooperative CVNE and local producer Suertes de Marques who selected fruit from theor vineyards in Valle de Orotava on the island of Tenerife. 2016 Medianías Listan Negro Viñas Viejas, Valle de la Orotava, Canary Islands, Spain. ⁣

Happy Father's Day! For my celebration, I was able to cook w my daughter. Menu included massive, tomato-braised, pprk meatballs; stuffed, braised squid w potates.
This wune pours w a pale garnet/ruby color. Nose shows plenty of red fruits, cherries, a hint of cyanic pit/bitter almond, dried rose, violet and some soil tone. Easy going style, soft tannins, moderate acidity and a pleasant but brief finish.
I pulled this bottle remembering a tasting w a Canary island producer who gifted me a dries pepper/spice blend. Since the squids are stuffed w peppers, onions and braised in tomato, this seemed like an ideal match.

This wine is exciting AF. It has such a peppery vibe like black pepper against underripe and also dried cranberries and it is SO good. Canary Islands—I need to try more. Clearly. Or just visit.

Sight: Interesting unique color, light cherry red and turbid eye.
Nose: mushrooms and chocolate!!, spiced, minerals and unique banana aroma. Fresh red fruits.
Taste: medium-high tannin, medium intensity, moderate finish and nice acidity. Amazing for a 2016 wine.
Thanks, mi amigo
@MaJ CappS, for such a weird and interesting treasure.

Wow! Light on its feet with fresh fruit mixed with ashy earth and a savory nose. A joy.
