Morlet Family Vineyards
Joli Coeur Sonoma County Pinot Noir
Just a few pics of the wines from last night’s monthly 4th Friday. Too many bottles to try!
Any time I’ve had this pinot from Morlet, they’ve had a touch more age. This caught me by surprise in how light and sweet it was. Not much acidity or tannin. Light bodied. Black cherry compote with cream, baking spices and cherries jubilee on the nose. Entry shows more of the same notes with sandalwood and sweet red licorice. This will likely improve, so I’d hold for more complexity.

I opened a bottle of this back in December as it was one I brought back from visiting the winery. Sadly, it was riddled with VA. I contacted the Morlet team and they gladly replaced the wine free of charge. Love great customer service.
This is Morlet’s top pinot selection. Extremely fragrant out of the glass showing lots of red potpourri, dark pomegranate, and black cherry spice. While not lean, this isn’t full throttle rich, and the acidity is quite nervy (in a good way). Fruit is mostly black cherry and tangy raspberries with a very pretty spice lift. Broad shouldered, but seemingly entering a drinking window where pieces are falling in line. Enjoy now or over the next 3-4yrs before it evolves to the next stage.

Strong tannins. A very muscular, intense wine. Pomegranate, dark cherries, a hint of raspberry, and spice.

Dec 19th, 2022Favorite Morlet Pinot Noir from our recent tasting. Delicately balanced 2014 Pinot that has years to mature. Great nose. The fruit is a bit tart cherry and base of blue fruit like blackberry and cassis. No complexity has developed yet but I’ll come back in 2-3 years and expect the subtlety to emerge.
