Really nice and classic St Joseph. On the nose, cracked pepper, olives and bacon. Maybe some pickles. In the mouth, red fruit, pepper and olive juice. High acidity, medium-short finish. Classic Northern Rhone. Not profound, but doesn't matter, bottle was gone before we knew!

Textbook northern Rhone. Fresh black fruit, cracked black pepper, olive brine, crushed granite, underscored by a bit of fresh violet and lavender, with a bit of that classic bacon fat/smoked meat character starting to emerge. There's just a kiss of vanilla and clove from a small portion of new oak as well. Bright medium (+) acidity, tannin is fine and supple at medium (+) intensity. Body is medium and smoothly textured. Awesome! This is a decently priced bottle to show someone a good example of northern Rhone Syrah.

For some reason this did not do it for me. Muddled and lacking in clear fruit or acid. May have just been off - or perhaps I'd had too much to drink.
