2017 opened April 2024. Herbal nose. Red raspberries on the front. Watery tannic structure with lots of sour high notes on the mid palate and back palate with nothing to balance them. The finish is long but astringent and bitter. i’m gonna let this breathe for another hour or so – maybe it will get better. But for now it’s sort of meh. If it improves, I’ll up my rating. If it doesn’t, I may dial my rating down a notch or two.
Update: I gave this wine an hour to breathe in a decanter, and most of the harsh edges that I complained about disappeared. Some of the fruit remain on the front. The watery tannic structure remained watery, but it became smoother. The finish shortened considerably as all the bitter astringent notes disappeared. This wine became inoffensive and boring when it opened up. I’ll leave my rating at 8.7. Double meh.
