Lots of funk but it blew off after 20 minutes. Not necessarily dark for a Sangiovese but the body has a notable density, which you wouldn't expect from a traditionally-styled Sangiovese. Seems this muscle likely comes from the Foglia Tondo grape, which is in the mix alongside Coloino (for color), Mammolo (for fragrance), and Canaiolo (to soften.)

Ouch! Hate when the wine I chose for @dstuckbomb is corked. Better run back downstairs and chose another #datenight #notca

This bottle did that "Nebbiolo thing" where it was watery and weird out of the bottle, but then transformed over 2 hours to become rich and complex! I think it needed even more time and would open several hours early next time. More bitter and less concentrated than the 2010, this still had beautifully complex violets and spiced sour cherry fruit--almost like real maraschino cherries--along with some roasted mushrooms. Worth a check if you dismissed the vintage.

Declassified Chianti...I'd drink this all day. In fact I might.

As a Sangio hater, this is beautiful! Such an elegant version. Wet earth n flowers n leather on the nose. Lots of fruit n acid in my mouth.

Earthy, leather & spice on the nose. Dark fruit on the palate.
