Methinks 2016 was a good year for this #cahors Château. Inky purple color in the glass. Allow for an hour to open up and take the edge of the tannins; then the nose opens up with black bramble fruit, cassis, slight baking spices, vanilla, molasses and yet still that classic Cahors earth / mushrooms. On the palate it continues that dark fruit, medium pleasing acidity plus coffee finishing with some muscular tannins and a long finish. It might be a touch hot at 14.5% ABV, but not egregiously so. A Château-bottled red from the ancestral home of #malbec for $7 at Costco. Lamb chops or a porterhouse would be a stellar pairing.

Jul 30th, 2020Costco bargain. Lots of vanilla from the oak. Overwhelms the fruit a bit, but still bold and brassy.
