First-rate QPR #cahors #malbec #merlot (70%/30%) blend. Nose considerably fruitier than the previous vintages I’ve found at #costco which were 100% Malbec. The merlot brings ripe bramble fruit on the nose followed by earthy undertones. Succulent acidity on the palate right up front, black berries following with some dark chocolate, forest floor, leather notes. Hearty tannins linger on the finish and build with each sip. QPR is way up there for under $9. — 3 years ago
Yet another superb red blend from Nice Winery. 54% #cabernetsauvignon / 16% #merlot / 14% #malbec / 12% #petitverdot / 4% #cabernetfranc - it pays homage to all of the great varietals of Bordeaux. With a modest 13.8% ABV, it overflows with wafts of dark bramble fruit, leather, sous bois, lovely acidity, earth and lush California fruit in balance. Paired marvelously with grilled steak. — 5 years ago
I got the sense this big beautiful #argentine #malbec blend was just beginning to develop after 6 years of bottle age with decades left to mature. Still delicious, layers of blue/purple fruit, dried herb and spice notes. — a year ago
Ramey’s interpretation of #claret is quite interesting. After 9 years of bottle time it’s aged more than expected. Stewed plum, quite faint dark fruit on the nose. Prominent acidity on palate, primary fruit exited stage left, some sherry notes but still noticeable tannins. 68% #cabernetsauvignon, 18% #merlot, 6% #syrah, 4% #malbec, 4% #petitverdot — 2 years ago
It’s great to see the historic and influential Robert Mondavi Winery return to excellence. Napa Bordeaux blend with 85% #cabernetsauvignon 6% #cabernetfranc 6% #petitverdot 2% #malbec 1% #merlot. This wine shines with generous decanting. Elegant, memorable ripe bramble fruit and black plum, sweet baking spices on the nose. Juicy tartness underlays a bold wave of fruit on the palate with silken tannins on the finish. I definitely plan on laying down my other bottle for at least half a decade. #oakville — 3 years ago

Sleeper hit #valledecolchagua #malbec - No overt jamminess on nose instead subtle bramble fruit, earthy funk and interesting tar notes; well-balanced palate, soft lingering tannins. — 4 years ago
Not a #malbec but a #cabernetsaugvinon. Pretty good. Not very dry. — 5 years ago
Another one of those “oh wow” #valledeguadelupe. Interesting pleasantly funk-forward nose in this #malbec; deep well of black/purple berry. Earthy-spicy up front on palate and soft tannins to finish out. Deeply chilled, it was delicious paired with Mexican-Indian fusion dishes in CDMX. — 2 years ago
Lovely mushroom emerges within a lovely and gracefully aged malbec showing appropriate raisination. Tulip, violet, hibiscus and rosemary-beef; bllackberry and cocoa, cracked pepper. Dense coloration just brimming on brick. Concentrated plum and cinnamon collide with tobacco, cedar and savory as well as slightly sour cherry and roobios.

Reserve #mendoza #malbec with plenty of personality. Bramble fruit, cassis, faint tobacco and vanilla hints on nose. Taut acidity up front on palate, medium plus body, fruit more shy than the nose would suggest, peppery spice, then leather tobacco progress to grippy tannins on the finish. Those tannins and acidity suggest this wine could easily evolve 5 years or more in the cellar. Brilliant glass paired with Wagyu steak sandwich with chimichurri sauce. — 3 years ago
Interesting #uruguay red blend from #canelones region. A few days after uncorking it’s evolved nicely. Substantial black/purple bramble fruit aromas up front followed by an understated earthy, leather character and some mushroom notes. Plump acidity on palate, less fruit and more coffee, licorice finished by rounded tannins. 70% #malbec 30% #marselan - interesting wine found from a friend at a South American grill restaurant. — 3 years ago
I’ve been on a QPR kick lately with this $11 Costco #valledeuco #malbec. Expected bramble fruit, leather notes on the nose but the fresh acidity, balance and restraint on the palate are much appreciated. — 5 years ago
