In the Rocks Syrah

This was my contribution. I’ve been fortunate to try quite a few different offerings from this vintage from Reynvaan and this is the most funk driven I’ve come across (as expected for the fruit source). Up front there is a lot of bacon fat, Olive tapenade, peppered teriyaki beef jerky and underripe blackberries on the nose...typical Rocks funk. On the palate, NRhone like with the lightness while retaining power. Cracked black pepper, blue fruit, bay leaf, iron and tangy red fruit finish. Nice acidity. More iron as it opens. Benefits from food as the savory-ness begs for a compliment to cut through it. Very nice example of Rhône style Syrah from Walla Walla.

Light for a Syrah, but delicious. Peppery, Tobacco, leather.

Big and dull. Okay, but totally unexciting.

Classic Syrah typicity.

This wine is undrinkable. How it gets the ratings it does is is ridiculous! Tastes like a 10 day old steak with a creosote rub. And this is not the first of these wines I have. Not sure what is going on with WA Syrah but this No Girls, Horsepower and Cayuse are the most overrated wines in the US.

Light on the funk

One sexy Syrah. Great purity of fruit; baked red & black fruits, leather, smoke, cured meats, pepper, camphor. Wonderful balance.

Nice fruit, meatiness and mineral finish. A little early for this vintage. Was much better the second day. Will greatly benefit from a couple more years in the bottle.
