Royal Oporto (Real Companhia Velha)
Quinta das Carvalhas Douro Touriga Nacional
#50 in the top 100 Wine Spectator list for 2017. These guys always over perform, especially for the price. 100% Touriga Nacional, which is one of the main varietals used to make port. $20, not complex, but very well put together. Dark plum and raspberry fruit, dried dates, nutmeg, clove, vanilla, and silk smooth tannins.

1 person found it helpfulDec 25th, 2017My first wine from Portugal. (That wasn’t a port). I agree with others. Spicy, leathery. But I like a lot. I naively keep trying to compare it to Rioja. Very different. But this bottle is very much worth the money. I think I should move to the Iberian Peninsula.

Jul 13th, 2019Lighter wine at first. Let it breath and get darker fruit flavors, subtle earth and spice. Moderate tannins. Enjoyable.

Oct 12th, 2018Loved this wine. Cedar mulch accented the ripe purple and blue fruit. Just enough acidity and tannins to keep things interesting. Good stuff.
