Splurging from my cellar on a Wednesday. Big Cali pinot. Fruit coming forward but still may need a few years. More muscular than I prefer.

Impressive for a 14 year old Cali Pinot. Shows the strength of the Sta. Rita Hills appellation for sure. Stored in sub optimal conditions but has held onto the fruit (cherries, raspberries) and has the faintest hint of secondary aromas and flavors (cedar). Chicken soup for dinner and it paired wonderfully. What is it about chicken fat and Pinot that works so well?

Drinking well. Probably a bit past peak - tannic backbone has fallen away a bit - but still has some nice fruit, nice aromatics, and a balanced, reasonably long finish.

Surprise, surprise, this was really enjoyable and perhaps in a sweet spot with lovely cherry notes with hints of spice that follows through on the palate with a nice lingering finish.
