Sean Thackrey
Orion Old Vines Rossi Vineyard Native Syrah
Hello old friend. It has been a long time since I had a Sean Thackrey wine. The last bottle of my stash. Once again a wine teaches me a lesson. I never had one of these with more than 12-15 years on. Always found them to be oversized but well made. I also believed these might not go the distance and once again I am wrong. In the glass still a bold color . From the first sniff of eucalyptus you knew who made the wine. On the palate a wonderful collection of blue and black fruits with lovely acidity allowing the bold flavors to travel your mouth as if they were riding on a raft down a lazy river. The somewhat short finish was the only flaw that prevented a higher score. I am happy to report the alcohol was not intrusive. Perfectly paired with my lamb chop lollipops.

Oct 9th, 2021In great form. Black fruit, licorice, rosemary and mint, grilled game, white pepper and violets. Seamless, energetic and on point with a 3 hour decant. Not in a hurry. From magnum.

Jan 11th, 2015This was drinking perfectly! Dark red color with minimal bricking. Could be mistaken for a Bordeaux as this is an elegant Napa Syrah. Meaty, rustic, and a touch of floral. Would love to buy more.

Aug 11th, 20241hr+ decant. Slightly over the hill. Definitely old world style. Didn’t guess Syrah when I blind tasted two weeks ago. More Bordeaux qualities with some smokiness and dark fruit elements.

Jun 17th, 2023Classic Thackery wine. Vineyard is situated between Abreu Madrona and spottswoode winery (spottswoode vineyard across street). Sean says he thinks it's Syrah, walked the vineyard and have seen a lot of Petite but what a site. Classic camphor tinged that screams thackery as the Eukalptus that covers his bolinas winery always finds its way in. He always had a knack for finding the best sites. Such an original

Jul 14th, 2017An absolutely stunning wine; juicy, pleasurable, giving up front, with profound length and depth. Showing copious fruit, but balanced, with those signature Thackrey dry herbal and mint tones emerging from the depths. Well into its peak drinking window with many great years of bottle evolution in its future. Drink now, or continue to cellar.
