I enjoyed this. It felt surprisingly balanced, fresh and welcoming.

SQN syrah: need I say more? This is Manfred’s “short” barrel-aged wine. Surprisingly approachable, but got so much better over the next couple of days. If you’re looking to enjoy this now, be sure to decant it for 3-4 hours in advance in order to really let it sing. Will be VASTLY better in a few years...

2016 Vintage. Broke my prior recommendation to hold longer and this bottle was doing much better.

2016 Vintage. 16.1% Alcohol. PNP mistake as @Roman Sukley said it needed 36 hours in a decanter. Monster wine that was brooding and unwilling to open up and then poof was gone. Also our first bottle opened from our allocation and will try to wait a few years before trying again. Upstaged at this point by the 2016 SQN Dirt Vernacular Grenache blend that is raring to go.

Första känslan var amerikansk Syrah. Påminde mycket om Andremily. Vilken inte visade sig vara konstigt. Superextraherad och fullpackad med smak. Mogna plommon, vinbär, eukalyptus, alkohol, tanin, kanel. Sjukt nog väldigt frisk och tillgänglig. Amerikanskt hedonistisk som jag får ge vika för. Sjukt god.

2016 Sine Qua Non "Rätsel 16" Syrah, originally “Cypher 16,” renamed because of potential legal problems with the rock band? Not sure of the backstory on that one, but it’s pretty clear that Rätsel (enigma, mystery, puzzle, riddle) is simply the German word for Cypher (a secret or disguised way of writing; a code). The wine however, not the band, is a monster. Gargantuan really. Typical SQN nose, and black as a moon-free, starless night sky in the stem. Tonight’s photo should not to be confused with Katie Bouman’s Black Hole masterpiece, although no light can escape from either. Very tight upon opening, singing an aria 36 hours later. SUPER concentrated with unlimited upside potential. More detailed tasting note to come. Yet another stunner!
