A full bodied Barbaresco that is tannic but has fruit and florals that cut through. I love this producer.

I bought a case of this wine from the producer in 2014. This is the first bottle I've opened since then. While it certainly has many years ahead of it, this wine is clearly entering its drinking window. Ripe cherries, tar, and leather greet the drinker. What's more surprising is how much the tannins are rounding bordering on elegant. Persistent finish.

My friend Andrea Sottimano is a master from Neive, I have tasted all of his wines, I always find his Barbaresco ( all of them) aproachable when young, this is the same here, my first 2011 though . This wine was opened three days before and then closed again. Nose thrilling and taste long a slightly tannic finish. Needs time at least 8 years.

Well, impossible not to compare this to the Bondonio from the other night. The fruit here is more advanced, less primary, though it also starts off with a touch of cedary woodiness - not so much as to make the wine "oaky" but it does show some raw wood that you'd like to see dissipate. And for the most part it does. There is a structural firmness to this even though it doesn't come across overtly tannic in texture, and there are even moments when it seems to oscillate into something plausibly Burgundian. At its most transparent it shows some aspects of a crunchy minerality that you can see turning into some of that old nebbiolo tarriness. Oddly enough I found this more drinkable (at least by nebbiolo standards) than the structure would tend to dictate, even though it is still basically a mise-en-place of ingredients at this point.
