This pinotage comes from a fantastic winery in Stellenbosch called Spier, and is the premier pinotage in their lineup - 21 gables, named after the historic gables on Spier's property dating back to 1692. Upon opening this new release, the tannins are fleshy and firm, needing time to decant (or cellar), but really opens up after an hour or so. Musky black fruit, cocoa, and woodsy notes emanate from the glass. The palate features raspberry, leather, unsweetened chocolate, and a certain "grapey" characteristic. Full mouthfeel and not for the faint of heart. Pairs beautifully with burgers and baked beans. For the Bordeaux fan and Napa fan that doesn't shy away from tannins. Drink with a good decant or cellar for up to 15 years.

Excellent pinotage with all typical characteristics, rich, powerful, spiced. To be drunk with some serious meal.
