I really enjoy the QPR of many different varietals and blends that Spier produces. This #shiraz #pinotage blend pours dark purple. After it opens up a bit, earthy, smoky, laid-back bramble fruit and slight petrol and rubber notes from the Pinotage. Striking acidity, blue/black fruit, some bitter chocolate and coffee with well-behaved tannins all swirled together; clearly a fantastic BBQ wine.

Nov 18th, 2020Shades of purple plus ruby. A bit bubbly. Nose of cocoa, fermented cabbage, some tobacco leaves, alcohol smell in nasal cavity, a bit cherry jam and spice. Taste of good acidity, spice and soft tannins, some bitter note on the second sip, and some subtle sweetness from dark fruits. Aftertaste of some more ripe grapes, but quite short. Quite different from usual Shiraz, and can’t really reference it to.
