This #shiraz #granache blend has #junkinthetrunk with big, bold notes of black plum, black cherry, and tobacco notes on the palate. The tannins give it structure so that it isn’t a total fruit bomb. 8.7 out of 10. — 5 years ago
Solid 9.0. #barossa valley #barossavalley blend of #gsm #grenache, #shiraz and #mataro or #garnacha #syrah and #monastrell #mourvedre Deep deep color typically ripe (low latitude=intense sunlight) medium (+) aromas of red and black fruit, hints of ink, chocolate and toast. On the palate...as one would expect, ripe and juicy. Maintains a lovely balance between the ripeness and juicy sweetness of the fruit, the medium acidity and the high alcohol (hardly noticeable) and ripe tannins. Good stuff. Reminds me of my wines from Campo de Borja. #australia #southaustralia — 6 years ago
Deep ruby colour. Meaty and ripe #shiraz aromas of black cherries accompanied by tart strawberries from the #grenache and dried leave of the #mourvedre #barossavalley — 6 years ago
Our first time every at the Cape Winemakers Guild Auction and we will make sure to come back! (Tasting was on 9/28/18).
Seventeenth wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and the sixth red wine. This is made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, 5% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot by Coenie Snyman from the Stellenbosch region. Aged for a total of twenty-two months prior to bottling. Only 53 cases of 750 ml produced with 36 being auctioned in 2018. Additionally there were 13 cases of magnums with 10 being auctioned in 2018.
Dark and deep garnet with with a little bit of ruby in the core. Lovely nose with layers of vanilla, cinnamon, cedar, earth and black currants. Medium plus tannins (7/10) and full bodied. A bit of wood and earth on the palate with some chalky gravel, black currants and cassis. Long and lingering dry finish. Drink till 2030.
$$$ - Tasted at the Cape Winemakers Auction. Average bid at auction was R6,778.00 ($79.78 a bottle) a case. Highest bid was R7,600.00 ($89.40 a bottle) and lowest bid was R6,400.00 ($75.28 a bottle).

Intriguing #shiraz coming in at 22 years of bottle age. Cork was crumbly but intact, minimal soak. Definite bricking on edges, dark burgundy in the glass. Day after uncorking it’s really awakened; prominent briny green olive aromas overlain with black olive, charcuterie notes, pruny fruit aromas in the background. Still some lively acidity on palate, prune raisin notes without a sense of the wine being tired, salted caramel, toffee towards the end and tannins vanishingly faint on finish. #fleurieu — 2 years ago
Positively delicious 8 year old #westernaustralia #shiraz. Unlike many Oz Shiraz, legitimate varietal aromas of smoked meat, black olive, black/purple fruit, leather. Gratifying acidity on palate balances out rich dark fruit, finishing with coffee notes, a touch of black pepper and fine tannins. Excellent wine. — 3 years ago
Been awhile since I’ve had this big boy. Juicy-jammy, but reined in. Big blackberry was expected, and echoed on the palate, but dried blackberry, oregano, dried black currant, tobacco, Turkish coffee, dark chocolate and vanilla, make it decadent. Violets, smoke, allspice and leather keep it honest. Pleasantly satisfying and a welcome diversion. .

I really enjoy the QPR of many different varietals and blends that Spier produces. This #shiraz #pinotage blend pours dark purple. After it opens up a bit, earthy, smoky, laid-back bramble fruit and slight petrol and rubber notes from the Pinotage. Striking acidity, blue/black fruit, some bitter chocolate and coffee with well-behaved tannins all swirled together; clearly a fantastic BBQ wine.

Curtis is with me in spirit cause I’m drinking while we record his podcast. It’s full bodied and a little spicy and pairs well with great conversation. #GaysidePod #badandboozypod #Delectable #WinesHoes #Shiraz — 8 years ago
2010 Magnum doing just fine! Says Shiraz, so not a blend per se. Big mushroom nose of porcini and cooked chanterelle. Blackberry, smoke and black pepper with espresso grind and cocoa powder. Intense extraction with leather, blackberry, black plum, prune, black olive, charred beef, dried violets;chewy, deep, earthy, lovely. Incredible musculature.

Happy #ValentinesDay Inky purple color with some sediment left in the bottle when I decanted it. The nose has black fruit and chocolate. There was a little barnyard that blew off with time in the glass. This is a meaty wine with #junkinthetrunk. The palate has jammy black fruit and a little spice. It paired perfectly with #reversesearedribeye. 9 out of 10 #inkyindulgence — 5 years ago
This is #Shiraz from #Australia Deep and brooding ruby color from #oldvines #mclarenvale On the nose blackberry black cherry blueberry and ink. Followed up by hints of oak, dark chocolate, cedar and toast. You can’t drink the whole bottle because between the power and depth and the 15% noticeable alcohol it would be kamikaze. But...you don’t care #hedonistic — 6 years ago
True to it’s name this #shiraz #petitverdot blend pours purple black. Rich with bramble fruit, some prune notes but it avoids flabbiness with bracing acidity and moderate tannins that fade quickly. I find it unbalanced with that tartness but not much complexity or depth. — 8 years ago
@Delectable Wine this is the 2015 Ernie Els Cape Winemakers Guild.
Our first time every at the Cape Winemakers Guild Auction and we will make sure to come back! (Tasting was on 9/28/18).
Sixteenth wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and the fifth red wine. This is made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Shiraz and 10% Cinsault by Louis Strydom from the Stellenbosch region. Aged for a total of eighteen months prior to blending and bottling. Only 200 cases produced with 60 being auctioned in 2018 and 60 auctioned in 2017.
Medium to deep ruby red in appearance. Coated with dark spices and berries on the nose with a touch of gravel at the back end. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. A bit savory on the front of the palate with herbs, spices and some dried cherries. Dry and long finish. Still a very young wine that needs some age to develop. Drink till 2032.
$$ - Tasted at the Cape Winemakers Auction. Average bid at auction was R3,957.00 ($46.54 a bottle) a case. Highest bid was R5,800.00 ($68.22 a bottle) and lowest bid was R3,400.00 ($39.99 a bottle). (91+)

Bit of a throwback style here with lots of big #cabernetsauvignon #shiraz fruit aromas. Quite elegant on the palate but new oak is noticeable towards the end of the sip, though tannins are velvety. Could use at least half a decade more to integrate - this wine is built for the long haul. — 2 years ago
