Twentieth wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and the ninth red wine. This is made up of 73% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot by Gary Jordan from the Stellenbosch region. Aged for a total of 24 months in 85% new French oak barrels prior to bottling. Only 69 cases produced with 44 being auctioned in 2018.
Dark garnet red with a touch of ruby. A bit dirty on the nose with leather, baking spices and dark cherries. Needs a bit of time to open up on the nose. Medium plus tannins (7/10) and medium plus body. Gritty on the palate with some earthiness, cinnamon and dark berries. Long finish. Drink till 2028.

Fifteenth wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and the fourth red wine. This is made up of 100% Pinot Noir by Gottfried Mocke from the Kaaimansgat vineyard (Crocodile's Lair) in the Overberg region in the Western Cape. Aged for a total of fifteen months in 50% new oak barrels prior to bottling. Only 60 cases produced with 40 being auctioned in 2018.
Medium ruby red with garnet edges. Layered nose with an attack of leather, followed up by dark cherries and fresh twigs. Medium acidity (6/10) and well integrated with a medium body. Rich palate with complex layers of dark berries, spices, gravel and touch of twigs. Well refined and seems to have some good aging potential. Long finish. Drink till 2029.

Fourth wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and second still white wine. This is made up of 100% Semillon by Nicky Versfeld from Darling. Aged for eight months on the lees prior to bottling. Only 130 cases produced and only 50 being auctioned in 2018.
Light to medium greenish yellow. Perfumed nose with notes of wax, almonds and a little citrus. Medium acidity (6/10) and light plus to medium bodied. Fresh attack on the palate with some stone and citrus fruits. A bit of a waxy medium plus finish. Drink till 2021.
$ - Tasted at the Cape Winemakers Auction. Average bid at auction was R2,116.00 ($24.92 a bottle) a case. Highest bid was R3,600.00 ($42.40 a bottle) and lowest bid was R1,500.00 ($17.67 a bottle).

Aged for a total of 18 months in 85% new French oak prior to blending and bottling. Only 100 cases produced with 40 being auctioned in 2018.

Deep garnet red. Quite chalky on the nose with a lot of greenery and a touch of dark berries. Solid acidity with medium tannins (6/10) and medium bodied. A bit of dried fruit on the palate with some gravel and bell peppers. Medium to medium plus finish. Needs time to beef up and develop. Drink from 2020 till 2028.

Sixteenth wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and the fifth red wine. This is made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Shiraz and 10% Cinsault by Louis Strydom from the Stellenbosch region. Aged for a total of eighteen months prior to blending and bottling. Only 200 cases produced with 60 being auctioned in 2018 and 60 auctioned in 2017.
Medium to deep ruby red in appearance. Coated with dark spices and berries on the nose with a touch of gravel at the back end. Medium tannins (6.5/10) and medium plus bodied. A bit savory on the front of the palate with herbs, spices and some dried cherries. Dry and long finish. Still a very young wine that needs some age to develop. Drink till 2032.

Aged for a total of twelve months prior to bottling. Only 50 cases produced with 34 being auctioned in 2018.
Medium ruby red in appearance. Spiced on the nose with some dried flowers as well as raspberries. Medium plus acidity (7/10) and light plus body. Tangy palate with red cherries, raspberries, fresh twigs and spices. Medium plus finish. Drink till 2020.

Thirty-fifth wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and the twenty-third red wine. This is made up of 100% Pinotage by Pierre Wahl with fruit from Tulbagh. Aged for 22 months in a mix of new and second fill French oak barrels. Only 60 cases produced with 40 being auctioned in 2018.
Dark purplish ruby red. Some classic Pinotage notes on the nose with some smoky and savory elements, dark berries, purple flowers and slightly burnt rubber. Medium plus tannins (7/10) and full bodied. Big palate full of blackberries, black cherries, cedar and baking spices. Long and lingering palate with great mouthfeel. Drink till 2030.

Seventeenth wine at the Friday Auction Tasting for the Cape Winemakers Guild and the sixth red wine. This is made up of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Syrah, 5% Merlot and 5% Petit Verdot by Coenie Snyman from the Stellenbosch region. Aged for a total of twenty-two months prior to bottling. Only 53 cases of 750 ml produced with 36 being auctioned in 2018. Additionally there were 13 cases of magnums with 10 being auctioned in 2018.
Dark and deep garnet with with a little bit of ruby in the core. Lovely nose with layers of vanilla, cinnamon, cedar, earth and black currants. Medium plus tannins (7/10) and full bodied. A bit of wood and earth on the palate with some chalky gravel, black currants and cassis. Long and lingering dry finish. Drink till 2030.

Aged for a total of seventeen months, six of which were in large oak barrels prior to bottling. Only 100 cases produced with 40 being auctioned in 2018.
Light to medium ruby red. Elegant nose layered with perfume, black cherries, spices and a little bit of minerality. Medium plus acidity (7/10) and light plus to medium bodied. Well balanced palate with layers of dark crushed flowers, cinnamon, black currants and twigs. Long and lingering finish with some minerality coming through. Drink till 2029.

Light greenish yellow in appearance. Rich nose with lovely floral characteristics, followed up by citrus rind, tropical fruits and some spices. Medium acidity (6.5/10) and light plus to medium bodied. A bit buttery in texture with notes of herbs, citrus fruits and some flowers. Long finish. Drink till 2026.
