We’re snowed ❄️ in on a Friday night and decided to imbibe this generously gifted Chateau Potelle, VGS Vintage 2010, ABV 14.5%. It’s predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, alongside Merlot, from Mount Veeder in Napa Valley, California. 🍷 🇺🇸
Wow, aromas and flavors are exuberant, concentrated, rich, and span a spectrum of characteristics from candied plum, ripe black cherry, and crème de cassis to black olive and crushed violet, to nutmeg, cardamom, and clove, to leather, tobacco, smoke, meat, and earth.
Tannins and mouthfeel are supple and smooth. Acidity is present, lending balance.
This wine is bold and is drinking beautifully now, though it has potential for further aging.
Cheers!

A beautiful #bordeauxblend from #tuscany #italy with #cabernetsauvignon #merlot #petitverdot and #cabernetfranc One of the best wines I have had in Italy. — 6 years ago
Pale straw hue and glorious citrus, peach, dried apricot, chalk, and white flower notes on the nose. Balanced and complex palate. Light and elegant. Vintage 2017. ABV 13%. 60% Sauvignon Blanc and 30% Semillon. .

60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot. Plums, dust, spice box. Fine grained tannins, minimal oak, excellent acidity. Definitely Tuscan. Not greasy, oaky and facile like a lot of $50 retail Cali wines of this type. Top value! #poggioalsole #tuscany #bordeauxblend — 8 years ago
2007 Orma Toscana from Tenuta Sette Ponti. Bordeaux blend from Tuscany. 40% Cab Franc 20% Cab Sauv 40% Merlot. The wine spent 12 months in French bariques and another 12 in the bottle. Dark berries, spice, with hints of Licorice and chocolate. Well integrated tannins and a nice full finish. Should drink well for another 4-5 years. #tuscanwine #italianredwine #supertuscan #maremma #orma #tenutasetteponti #bordeauxblend #2007tuscanvintage #goodredwine #nobleestates — 8 years ago
Despite age, wooden and rich. Fleshy plum and blackberry, blueberry and black currant ripeness, moist tobaccos, tender steak, acanthus, mulberry and melting chocolate. Espresso, mocha, raisinate currants, spicy tobacco, cedar, cinnamon, clove, and barrel. Candied rose petal, smoky violet, and pepper blend. Long and complex finish.

#bordeauxblend that is comparably better than some of the Aussie blends I’ve been tasting lately. “Calentito”as we say in Spain which means you can feel the alcohol like a dragon in your lungs. #ravenswood #merlot #malbec #cabernetsauvignon (how annoying is the misspelled hashtag in @Delectable Wine of #cabernetsaugvinon) it’s the worst! And a pinch of #petitverdot #ravenswood — 6 years ago

Deep garnet red. Quite chalky on the nose with a lot of greenery and a touch of dark berries. Solid acidity with medium tannins (6/10) and medium bodied. A bit of dried fruit on the palate with some gravel and bell peppers. Medium to medium plus finish. Needs time to beef up and develop. Drink from 2020 till 2028.
$$ - Tasted at the Cape Winemakers Auction. Average bid at auction was R4,560.00 ($53.64 a bottle) a case. Highest bid was R7,200.00 ($84.69 a bottle) and lowest bid was R4,000.00 ($47.05 a bottle).

Dark rye toast, blackest of currant, raisin and dried plum complement a nose of toasted sesame and maduro tobacco. Palate shows grill char, burnt brittle, toffee and resin knit into a rich and comforting blanket of espresso, bakers chocolate, black and red currant, blackberry, violet extract, cinnamon and Madagascar vanilla. At once a treat and a depth charge!

Castello
Bakers chocolate, cardamom, herbs de Provence, roses, suede, tobacco, coffe and black cherry. Red tart and black cherry power palate with brooding chocolate, rich raspberry and cherry reductions, crispy sage, light graphite, and finally tight plum and blackberry. .

This is wine seems overpriced for me. That being said...I preferred it to some Super Tuscans blind. It’s a delicious wine. #chile #bordeauxblend — 6 years ago
Disappointing. Smells like smoked meat and mezcal. Literally. Iodine and ripe plums. Weird. #pinotage #bordeauxblend #southafricanwine — 6 years ago

I am enjoying it and yet its a little too warm and slightly too chewy and sweet. Smooth and easy, perhaps too easy. #napa #bordeauxblend — 7 years ago
Pleasing #bordeauxblend drank at a Paris café. Rich fruit up front with a dark berry nose which matches the initial palate impression with some structure from tannins and moderate acidity. Interesting savory depth with earthiness trailing off with a touch longer finish. Very approachable wine. Great value at €20 asked for the bottle on a restaurant menu. — 8 years ago

Fantastic nose, even though the #cabfranc isn’t the principal grape #bordeauxblend it comes through pure and clear. On the palate it seemed too sweet and overripe. #mexicanwine #mexico — 3 years ago
